Aug. 30 Agent Orange Deadline! Vietnam-era vets who have any of three conditions recently added to the VA’s list of presumptive conditions related to Agent Orange exposure must file disability claims by Aug. 30 to qualify for up to one year of retroactive benefits. Ischemic heart disease, hairy cell and other B-cell leukemias, and Parkinson’s disease were added to the list of conditions presumed to be triggered by Agent Orange exposure. Widows and widowers whose spouses have died from Agent Orange presumptive conditions may also qualify for retroactive benefits and are encouraged to file for dependent indemnity compensation.

Sept. 9 Career Expo One of several jobs fairs held by the partnership around the country. Past fairs in Boston, San Diego and elsewhere have drawn dozens of recruiters from law enforcement, the defense industry, retail and technical fields. The expo will be held at the West Point Club on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy, Bldg. 603, Cullum Rd. West Point, N.Y. Free. Directions are here.

Sept. 20 VA Suicide Prevention Program: 1 to 4 p.m., Northport VA Medical Center will hold a suicide prevention and awareness program for veterans, their advocates, and community members in the Bldg. 5 auditorium. The Keynote Speaker is Caitlin Thompson, PhD, VA Clinical Care Coordinator for the Veterans Crisis Line and Chat Service.
